St. Louis Catholic School Library News

April 2008

St. Louis has been chosen by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to receive a collection of 40 laminated prints of American art.

The project, called “Picturing America,” is a joint collaboration of the NEH and the American Library Association and is designed to place quality works of American art in our nation’s schools in order to expose more people to our American heritage of fine art and the historical periods these pieces represent.

St. Louis was among the first 1500 schools across the country to participate in the pilot project of Picturing America.

The prints will be displayed in the trophy cases in the hall leading to the music room throughout the month of May.  Please take the time to view and enjoy these wonderful works of art.

We have been blessed this spring with many wonderful donations from the following people:

Julianna and Morgan Barger

Kyle Hall

Cheryl Simpson

Kimberly Schuetze

We are always pleased to receive donations of books, movies, and, of course, money!

St. Louis Library Wish List

The Wish List is back!

Many of you have asked what became of the Library Wish List.  Well, due to the generosity of so many of you, there wasn’t a need for one for most of last year and we were able to buy some great new non-fiction titles for our older students.  So now it’s time to begin work on updating our younger readers’ non-fiction.

We begin with a wonderful new series   called The Wild World of Animals.  This is a 12-volume set of hardcover books, published by Creative Education, which include as many different species.  The Horn Book, the premier children’s literary guide (and a very picky reviewer of children’s literature), gave high marks to this series for its wonderful photographs and straightforward information.  The books cost $18.95 each and include the following titles:

Crocodiles

Dolphins

Giraffes

Koalas

Lions

Monkeys

Parrots

Penguins

Polar Bears

Snakes

Swans

 Tigers

Any book you purchase for our Library will have a book plate placed inside with your name and the name of someone you wish to honor.  Of course, donations to the Library are welcome any time and in any amount, from one cent to a million dollars! Please make your check payable to St. Louis Catholic School and write “Library” on the memo line.

We offer special thanks to the Margaret and Spencer Brown Foundation, the Tomchesson Family, the Wilfong Family, and, of course, our Book Fairy for generous donations made to the Library fund since May, and to those of you who shared with us from your home libraries.  May God continue to bless you all!
