There are many volunteer opportunities at St. Louis School.  The St. Louis Parents Association (SLPA) is a very involved parent group at St. Louis School.  The following is a list of SLPA standing committees.

 

 

AUCTION COMMITTEES

 

Purpose:         To provide a fun evening for raising money for school projects.

 

Description:  This will be the spring fundraiser for the year.  Members of the church and parents will be invited to participate in the silent and audible auctions.  Dinner will be served.

 

There will be the following sub-committees:

 

 

Class Projects -

Work with room mothers and teachers in each class to determine an appropriate class project for the audible auction.  Parent participation will be needed from each class to work with the students to create the class project.

 

 

             

Class Baskets -

Work with room mothers and teachers in each class to determine an appropriate class basket for the silent auction.   Parent participation will be needed to acquire items needed to put together the class basket. 

 

 

Catalog/Item Description - 

Write descriptions for all audible and silent auction items.  Will also type and proof the catalog.  Will work closely with Item/Ad Soliciting and Art.

 

 

Decorations -

Will be responsible for room layout and decorations.  Will work closely with the general chairmen to develop the theme for the evening.

 

 

Display - (Audible and Silent)

Will arrange the auction items for display.  Responsible for obtaining/creating a display for all items.  Will also prepare the identification cards for each item and the silent auction bid sheets.

 

 

Finance -

Responsible for checkout for all purchases for each buyer on the night of the auction.  Will tally the bidder's purchases, collect the money and deliver the items to the buyer that evening.

 

 

Food -

Will plan the menu, obtain bids and select a caterer.

 

 

Invitations/PR(Art) -

Responsible for the design and layout of the invitations.  Will also write announcements for the church bulletin.  Will help to address invitations.

 

 

Item/Ad Soliciting -

Responsible for the soliciting both silent and audible auction items primarily from parents of students and members of the church.  Also will solicit the advertising for the catalog.

 

 

Reservations -

Responsible for all reservations, payments and table assignments.  Will have a committee to work at the door the night of the auction to welcome guests.  Will help address invitations.

 

 

Spotters -

Will "work the crowd" during the audible auction to ensure all bidders are heard.  Will also be responsible for closing items at the silent auction tables.

 

 

ATHLETICS - 4-6 Grades BOYS (Intramural Sports)

           

Purpose:         To coordinate extra-curricular athletics for grades 4 through 6.

 

Description:  Organize volleyball/flag-football teams in the fall and basketball teams in the winter in coordination with other local private schools.  Assist in recruiting coaches and registering players.

 

 

 

 

ATHLETICS - 4-6 Grades GIRLS (Intramural Sports)

           

Purpose:         To coordinate extra-curricular athletics for grades 4 through 6.

ATHLETICS Jr. High

 

Purpose:         Coordinate parent-workers for concessions/gate during athletic events for Jr. High.

 

Description:   Prepare a schedule of workers for Jr. High athletic events.  Assist in set-up and clean-up of the concession areas.

 

 

 

 

BUILDING/GROUNDS

 

Purpose:         To provide a safe, well maintained building and grounds.

 

Description:  Organize efforts to maintain and update the grounds area, including, but not limited to the play area.  Provide input on maintaining the physical plant.

 

 

 

 

MONTHLY ONLINE NEWSLETTER

           

Purpose:         To communicate on a regular basis with parents.

 

Description:   Collect, organize and print information for a monthly online newsletter.

 

 

 

LITURGY

 

Purpose:         To promote Catholic education in our school.

 

Description:  Plan and organize activities for our school relating to religious holidays and events.

 

 

 

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

 

Purpose:         To promote Catholic education during Catholic Schools Week.

 

Description:  Plan and organize activities for this week. Work with St. Louis School Religion Coordinator.        

 

 

 

CHURCH FESTIVAL

           

Purpose:         To coordinate efforts at St. Louis School for participation in the Church Festival.

 

Description:  Attend St. Louis Church Parish Society planning meetings.  Help coordinate the use of the school facilities.  Organize the various game booths sponsored by St. Louis School.

 

 

 

GIFT WRAP

           

Purpose:         To raise funds for school related projects.

 

Description:  Coordinate and promote the sale of gift-wrap by the students.  Committee will be responsible for incentives, promotion and final distribution of the product. Committee will be responsible for the record keeping of sales and the collection of money.

 

 

 

SWEET SHOP

           

Purpose:         To raise funds for P.E. equipment and school projects.

 

Description:  Each month a different class brings cupcakes for sale at lunchtime.  Volunteers may help promote the sales by sending home reminders and getting helpers for the sale.

 

 

 

NORTH POLE EXPRESS

 

 

Purpose:  To provide students the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for a nominal price.

 

Description:  To research the items that will be sold, coordinate workers for the work of the sale and pack up and ship back any remaining items to vendor.

 

 

 

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

 

 

Purpose:  To provide school supply packs for parents, ready to be picked up in August.

 

Description:  Organize, purchase and sell pre-packaged school supplies.  Work with teachers on class supply lists and with vendor for ordering, receiving and distributing school supplies.

 

 

 

DADS-N-DONUTS

           

Purpose:         It is a time for students to eat breakfast with their dad. Date is determined by the SLPA President. It is held in our gym from 7:30am – 7:50am.

 

Description:  Plan and promote Dads-n-Donuts, including flyers, food, set-up and clean-up.

 

 

 

MOMS-N-MUFFINS

 

Purpose:         It is a time for students to eat breakfast with their mom. Date is determined by the SLPA President. It is held in our gym from 7:30am – 7:50am.

 

Description:  Plan and promote Moms-n-Muffins, including flyers, food, set-up and clean-up.

 

 

 

HEALTH

     

Purpose:         To help keep the school in compliance with state health requirements.

 

Description:    Assist school nurse with school health exams and screenings.

LIBRARY

     

Purpose:         To promote the use of the library.

 

Description:  Plan and organize projects to encourage students to use the library.  Work to enhance the selections of books in the library through donations or gifts.  Assist the librarian in cataloging and shelving tasks.  This committee is responsible for the Book Fair in February. 

 

 

 

SOCIAL

 

Purpose:        To hostess social events for the school.

 

Description:  To hostess and provide refreshments for Newcomers' Lunch, Open House, National Junior Honor Society, etc…

 

 

 

BACK TO SCHOOL PARTY

           

Purpose:         To host a family social for the school community.

 

Description:  Plan, organize and conduct Back to School Party in August. 

 

 

FIELD DAY

 

Purpose:         Fun day for grades K through 6 in the spring.

 

Description:  Organize the day's activities, set out necessary equipment and facilities, and provide lunch and entertainment.

 

 

 

SCRAPBOOK

 

Purpose:         To provide a pictorial history of the school year.

 

Description:  Collect newspaper clippings about school events.  Coordinate efforts with journalism teacher to get pictures of school activities.  Compile all memorabilia in a scrapbook to be used by the office for visitors.

 

 

 

TABLE TOPPERS

 

Purpose:        To promote St. Louis Catholic School to the Waco community.

 

Description:  To create and organize a table top to display at the annual Waco Table Topper luncheon.

 

 

 

 

CLASS PICTURES

 

Purpose:         To organize a group class picture of each class in the spring.

 

Description:   Work with photographer and school staff to schedule annual group class pictures.

 

 

 

LOBBY DECORATIONS

 

Purpose:         To provide seasonal decorations for the school

.

Description:  Coordinate efforts with art classes and teachers to decorate the lobby of the school on a monthly basis. 

 

 

 

TEACHER APPRECIATION

     

Purpose:         To demonstrate our appreciation for our teachers and staff.

 

Description:  To provide little "treats" for the teachers/staff through the year.

     

     

 

USED UNIFORMS

 

Purpose:         Help keep the used uniforms organized.

 

Description: Provide information about used uniforms.  Conduct used uniform sale on Back to School Day.

 

 

NEWCOMER SPONSORS

 

 

Purpose:  To help new families feel welcome at school.

 

Description:  Send information packets to new families.  Existing St. Louis families are newcomer sponsors to help answer questions throughout the year for new families. 

 

 

 

SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS – (contact school office)

 

Description:  St. Louis is always in need of substitute teachers during the school year.  Substitute teachers are needed when teachers are sick, their children are sick, or other emergencies arise.  This may be for one or several days.  If a regular substitute is needed, for example, for maternity leave, for an extended amount of time, a teacher will be hired.  If you are interested, please contact the school office at 754-2041.
